In the second half of the twentieth century, wooden architecture was in decline and it seemed that it would eventually be replaced by other technologies. Wood was used mainly in hybrid systems, not as the dominant construction and finishing material. The turn of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries reversed this trend. This is influenced by new technologies that provide new construction possibilities, but also by new methods of protecting wood. Wood is a renewable, ecological material with a small built-in carbon footprint and is easy to recycle. The method of literature analysis and criticism was used, as well as a statistical method describing the growing trends of interest in wood as an architectural and construction material in Poland, as well as an analysis of the ongoing processes of implementing wood in the circular economy. The aim of the study is to analyze the criteria that determine the possibilities of using wood in a circular economy, mainly in terms of minimizing material consumption, reuse and recycling.
