From Waste to Resource: The Potential of Waste Plastic in Geopolymer Concrete Production

Using waste plastic in geopolymer concrete production is a positive step towards reducing carbon emissions and increasing durability compared to traditional Portland cement-based concrete. Moreover, this approach contributes to the reduction of plastic waste. The study aims to investigate the use of recycled plastic as a resource in creating geopolymer concrete, exploring how it affects the concrete’s mechanical properties, workability, and environmental impact. The technical and financial feasibility of integrating waste plastic into geopolymer concrete manufacturing are scrutinised. The findings demonstrate that waste plastic is a practical material for geopolymer concrete, resulting in better mechanical properties, enhanced workability, and reduced environmental impact. This research highlights the importance of waste management systems that convert plastic waste into valuable resources and adds to the growing knowledge of sustainable construction materials.
