This study presents a method for separating lightning trajectory and calculating the development parameters of each channel. The Dijkstra algorithm and K-means clustering algorithm are employed to classify the detected radiation sources during a lightning discharge event, thereby distinguishing between the main trunk and branches of the lightning leader channel. Based on the data recorded from the Lightning Mapping Array (LMA), the result indicates that the proposed algorithms can effectively separate the main lightning channel and categorize each branch. To further study the branching characteristics of lightning leader trajectory, several parameters of lightning leader trajectory including the branch count, the angle between branch and primary trajectories, the propagation velocity of the discharge channel, the discharge angle, and the fractal dimension, are calculated based on the result of separation. The results show that the development velocity of the main lightning channel is nearly identical to that of the branches, but the branches exhibit greater curvature than the main channel.
