KQ 18.1. Head and neck oncological surgery, while potentially lifesaving, is an extremely invasive and challenging procedure for patients. Reconstructive surgery is often inevitable for restoring optimal function following ablative treatment, which can affect basic functions such as eating and speaking, as well as appearance and social adaptability. Many survivors of head and neck cancer suffer from postoperative disfigurement. Consequently, treatment for advanced head and neck cancer could eventually impact a patient’s quality of life. A comprehensive understanding of various techniques for reducing morbidity and improving esthetic outcomes is crucial for achieving optimal results. Furthermore, morbidity associated with donor sites following flap harvesting is another important concern that must be addressed. KQ 18.2. The standard treatment for maxillary sinus malignancy is complete surgical removal of the tumor, including the orbital bone structures, followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. In patients whose lower orbital portions need to be removed along with resection of the maxilla, a proper reconstruction technique for the orbital floor is needed (Sweeney et al., J Craniofac Surg, 30(5): 1448–51, 2019).
