Magnetic controlled transformers (MCTs) are an innovative type of power equipment that integrates controllable reactors and transformers, facilitating reactive power and voltage regulation within distribution networks. This paper investigates the siting of MCTs, using a distribution network in a town in southern China as a case study. A siting model for MCTs is established, and the impacts of photovoltaic (PV) capacity, supply radius, and load characteristics on the siting process are analyzed. Upon completing the siting, the reactive power capacity of the MCTs is designed and calculated based on the specific characteristics of the lines where MCTs are to be installed. The calculation results align closely with preliminary theoretical research findings. The insights provided by this study can effectively guide the practical engineering application of MCTs.
