Museum tourism is of great significance in the protection of cultural heritage. The purpose of this study is to systematically analyze the literature on museum tourism research through bibliometrics. For this purpose, 161 papers were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Qualitatively and quantitatively study is performed, and four major themes are identified. The main theme in the papers is concerned with the experience of museum tourism. After discussing the regional, contemporary, and inclusive characteristics of the hot topics in the museum tourism research, we discover that the research literature reflects the transformation from personal feelings to public practice. This highlights the significance of the museum tourism for the national consciousness and national values. Based on the confirmed findings, the paper recommends several directions for future research in this area.
