Universities are facing a major challenge in revolutionizing their learning and assessment systems after COVID-19. The University of Turin has conducted experiments to find solutions for the large number of students who must take the exams. The objective of this conference paper is to illustrate the two methodologies employed Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) and Computer-Lab-Based (CLB), both of which use in-person invigilation, and Safe Exam Browser (SEB). The IT Systems, Website Management and E-Learning Division, in collaboration with some professors, is looking into different methodologies at the two Schools of University of Turin: School of Management and Economics and School of Law, Politics and Social-Economic Sciences. The BYOD situation concerns a course with 1000 students who must take the exam. The key elements are: (i) support and administration of the examinations at the same time for all; (ii) use of Moodle with a multi-choice assessment and (iii) SEB software on personal devices that rely solely on UniTo’s Wi-Fi with a limited list of IP addresses. The model CLB is linked to Moodle’s SEB (functional core), and it is used on thin clients in computer labs. Our findings show that both solutions effectively facilitate secure and scalable exams, using SEB integrated with Moodle. Additionally, they aim to serve as a knowledge base for those who wish to experiment with, adapt, and further develop the delivery methods discussed herein.
