This chapter organizes methods for measuring life satisfaction, reviewing studies on its relationship with factors like income, gender, age, and health. Based on theoretical studies, it clarifies the status and issues of economic growth and life satisfaction in Japan, summarizes theories on relative income and adaptability, and highlights this study’s academic significance. Unlike conventional views, the analysis adopts the perspective that the percentage of life-satisfied individuals remains stable despite increases in GDP per capita.
