Change, Freeze, Develop: Organization and Transformation

Being able to communicate about instructions and agency using hand gestures, being able to generate a plethora of musical ideas, and being able to create groups or intra-group collaborations dynamically are important aspects of Soundpainting, as discussed in the preceding chapters. But creating compositions by generating and modifying sequences of performative actions, which comprise an interesting whole, is a different matter. Discussing how to put things together to form longer sections of musical performance, this chapter argues that Soundpainting affords organizing and steering unpredictable interactions toward coherent forms by interconnecting and transforming agency over time. The chapter concludes by arguing that insights gained from studying and practicing Soundpainting may have far-reaching implications, shedding light on the nature of creativity, the intricacies of communication, and the ethics of co-creative practices. By understanding Soundpainting, we can enhance our understanding of these areas and potentially apply our insights to other fields.
