Unlocking the Skies: Addressing the Role of Government Support and Policies in Fueling the Adoption of Drones in Last-Mile Deliveries

Artificial Intelligence and other technological developments improve the performance of business organizations worldwide. Technological development can also be utilized in logistics and the supply chain industry. Last-mile deliveries are crucial in logistics and supply chain management. The adoption of drones is an upcoming technological trend in last-mile delivery (LMD). Developed nations already started using drone technology and yielding presidential advantages out of it. Since drones are environmentally friendly and reduce carbon footprint, they reduce air pollution. It also consumes less fuel than diesel vehicles used for goods delivery. In India, technology has yet to start at a high pitch and reach levels in developed countries. The adoption of drones may be affected by various factors and conditions of the organization and its environment. Last-mile deliveries using drone technology affect the environment as the products are delivered using drones (a sort of unmanned air vehicle), and governmental rules and regulations might be forced to adopt and use it at any organization. This research examines the effect of government support and policies for adopting drone technology in last-mile deliveries by collecting data from the working professionals of the organizations involved in logistics and supply chain management in the Indian context using structured equation modeling. It was found that government support and policies positively affect the adoption of drone technology in last-mile deliveries, thus improving the operational performance of the business organization.
