Landslides cause a serious threat to human lives, infrastructure, and the environment, particularly in hilly regions. The Himalayan region is susceptible to landslides due to its rough landscape and slope stability issues. This region is subjected to high intensity rainfall and seismically very active. Further, anthropogenic activities trigger slope failures. Mitigation of rainfall and earthquake induced landslides through engineering applications is one of the most effective ways to reduce its effects. It involves creating susceptible maps of potential landslide hazards, evaluating their vulnerability and risks, continuous monitoring, implementing soil and rock stabilization measures, and issuing early warnings. This review provides an overview of the latest advances in landslide mitigation techniques such as soil nailing, anti-slide pile, reinforcements using geo-synthetics, gabion walls, and wire netting, highlighting the effectiveness, limitations, and applicability of these techniques in different geological and climatic contexts. Furthermore, the study identifies research gaps and areas for future development, encouraging ongoing innovation in the field of landslide mitigation.

摘要
