Landslide is one of the most destructive and frequent geo-hydro logical natural hazards which is very commonly occurs in the hilly and mountainous regions of the world. It is occurred when the slope fails due to the heavy rainfall and under the effect of the force of gravity. As per the report of WHO in 2022, more than 4 million people were affected by the landslide in all over the world during the year of 1998 to 2017. In India, the hilly part of the region is most vulnerable to landslide and around 12% of the land area is landslide hazard prone area (Geological Survey of India). The site of the Umri landslide is located in the Panchkula district in the state of Haryana near the Morni hill station in India. The region is one of the most vulnerable and landslide prone areas in India because the region is located in the tectonically active zone of the Himalayan range. The main objective of the paper is to identification of the geological characteristics of the Umri landslide. The open-source data and software such as LANDSAT imagery, Google earth engine, and STERONET software were used to conduct the present study. The field survey has done to measures the geological structure of the landslide and types of slope failure was identified by the kinematic analysis. The study identified various types of geological structure from the analysis of the geological profile of the landslide area, and the result indicated that the landslide was happened as result of the wedge failure during the time of rainfall.
