On 19 October 2005, the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (hereinafter referred to as the Convention on Cultural Diversity, the Convention) was agreed upon with an overwhelming majority at the 33rd General Conference of UNESCO held in Paris, France. The Convention on Cultural Diversity, together with the World Heritage Convention and the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003), was intended to provide a reliable and feasible framework for the international community to protect cultural diversity.
