The Impact of Policies, Power and Market on Ethnic Dai’s Religious Life: A Case Study of Mangang Villagers’ Group in Mengzhe Town, Xishuangbanna Prefecture
摘要
Since 1980s, China’s policies on freedom of religious belief, nine-year compulsory education and port opening have directly or indirectly affected the religious life of Dai villagers in Xishuangbanna. For the villages along the western line of Xishuangbanna tourism, interest distribution and the adjustment of tourist attraction adjustments in the tourism market are also shaping ethnic relations, inter-village relations and villagers’ production and lifestyle. Under these multiple forces, the geographical space, social space, ethnic consciousness, religious beliefs and other elements of the Dai people are constantly replaced and reorganized.
