In the present work, the liquefaction susceptibility at NIT Patna (Bihta campus) is investigated with various Vs–N correlations. The site is located near the banks of Sone river in Bihta city, 35.0 km from Patna (India), and it lies in earthquake zone IV. Therefore, it is required to investigate the probability of liquefaction for any design of structural or foundation parts. Since the soil at the site is cohesive, six different Vs–N correlations are established for cohesive soil (Vs–N)cohesive and all types of soil (Vs–N)all type of soil conditions throughout the world are used to predict the shear wave velocity (Vs) and, by averaging all correlations, the average shear wave velocity (Vs-avg) with depths is determined. These average shear wave velocity values are further used to determine the liquefaction depth as per IS Code 1893-Part 1 (Criteria for earthquake resistance design of structures: general provisions and buildings. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) New Delhi, 2016). The comparison betweenVs–N correlations of cohesive and all types of soil conditions indicates that the (Vs–N)cohesive determined slightly lower values of CRR as compared to the (Vs–N)all type of soil. Therefore, the values evaluated from (Vs–N)cohesive predicted a lower factor of safety (FS < 1) against liquefaction for all borehole locations. Hence, established empirical correlations based on cohesive soil may be used at this site to determine the liquefaction depths under the correlations approach. Since the results indicate that the site lies in a liquefaction-prone area, it might damage the structure or foundation of the building during high seismic intensity. Therefore, more safety and mitigation measures should be taken during the design and construction of any civil engineering project.

摘要
