Development and Application of Low-Cost Ceramic Membranes Based on Apatite for Wastewater Treatment
摘要
We propose and discuss in this chapter the possible use of natural hydroxyapatite material to prepare microfiltration and ultrafiltration ceramic membranes. In general, the fabrication of a composite membrane needs the following steps: the preparation of the apatite-based support, the preparation of hydroxyapatite suspension, and the subsequent coating of an active top layer onto the support previously prepared via specifically techniques. The good adhesion between the support and the active layer as well as the free defect of the surface should be particularly checked. The development of these low-cost MF- and UF-based apatite membranes appeared as promising solution for wastewater treatment thanks to their good chemical and thermal resistances as well as excellent permeability. Finally, the estimation of the price of the apatite-based membrane proves its low cost in comparison with commonly ceramic membrane made from metallic oxides such as alumina, zirconia, and titania.
