The Impact of High-Speed Railway Development on Economic Distribution

Large-scale public transportation infrastructure connects metropolitan areas with peripheral small and medium-sized cities. Does the reduction in trade costs promote the diffusion of industries, allowing economic activities to extend from core areas to peripheral regions? Or does it, conversely, strengthen centripetal forces? This chapter conducts an empirical study on the relationship between HSR construction and county-level urban development to address this question.
