The Issue of Qualitative Water Treatment in Eastern Donbas Region

The report highlights a consistent rise in both the volume of water consumed and the amount of wastewater discharged. The contamination of surface water sources for the population by anthropogenic factors has reached critical levels, making it difficult to implement effective water treatment. The majority of reservoirs in the European part of Russia have been classified as “polluted”, “very polluted” or “dirty” due to the presence of pollutants. Following the cessation of lengthy coal mining operations in the Eastern Donbass, the flooding of the techno gene space with underground waters has created a need for the organization of a program for the removal of polluted mineralized waters. The current technological infrastructure of treatment facilities is unable to achieve the necessary reduction in pollution levels due to the high volumes of pumped mine water and the significant contamination with dissolved substances. This study demonstrates the potential for effective post-treatment of mine waters using a floating aquatic plant, Eichhornia, as a natural filtration solution. One of the potential solutions to this issue is the utilization of the heat generated by pumped underground waters. This is demonstrated by the example of the initial pond at the Deep mine treatment facilities in the town of Shakhty. A regression equation was developed to assess the decrease in the temperature of the settling pond based on a series of experimental studies conducted over several years and their subsequent statistical evaluation. The equation was used to predict the conditions of Eichhornia vegetation in winter.
