Urban design and planning studies face an increasing challenge in improving outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) and microclimate conditions of urban environments. Analyzing OTC is more challenging outdoors since there is a wider range of interrelated parameters. Additionally, each of these problems is covered by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Therefore, this paper aims to clarify parameters addressing the impact of urban geometry on OTC at pedestrian level as urban geometry is thought to be the most important and fundamental aspect of urban design that affects outdoor microclimate. The literature on numerous urban design studies in urban environment is first introduced and an overall analyzation of case studies was presented. Then, the paper identified a series of important urban geometries parameters, methods, and techniques which impact thermal comfort outdoor spaces. The study's findings boost the decision-making process and enable architects and urban planners to more effectively contribute to OTC and climate-sensitive projects.
