In a university in the western plains of Colombia, it is prohibited to use digital devices when students are in classes. Digital devices cause distractions, and students focus on issues that are not related to academic assignments. Teachers ask for attention, but students listen to music, check social networks, or play online video games while they are in class. This study looks for determining the relation that some university students have to their digital lives and their reasons for using their devices in a class at the university. After collecting data, it was found students spend more time in their digital lives than in their academic responsibilities; for students, their digital devices play an important role in their lives; students’ digital context is tied to their daily routine at the university. Students argue that it is usual to use digital devices during class, despite that they are aware that this is a misconduct, but they are not willing to change.
