Urban Safety Resilience and Disaster Prevention and Reduction
摘要
Cities serve as a nation’s or region’s population, wealth, and information hubs in addition to being its political, economic, and cultural hubs. In the twenty-first century, the urbanization process continues to accelerate, and the uncertainties in society, the risk factors, and disasters’ inducing factors are also increasing. This characteristic of modern cities leads to disasters that will cause calamities once they occur. Accordingly, the concepts of urban disasters, disaster mitigation, and prevention are defined in this chapter. The relevant literature is compiled, and urban catastrophes’ significance, effects, and implications are clarified. Meanwhile, a detailed explanation of the definition and features of urban disaster prevention and mitigation is provided.
