Stability Analysis of Reinforced Soil Embankments with Alccofine, Glass Fibres, Metal Mesh, and Geogrid
摘要
In the recent years, the slope stability analysis and stabilization of soil slopes have gained importance since there is increase in the occurrences of landslides and land subsidences. This present study reports the results of stability of embankment soil reinforced with Alccofine, geogrid, glass fibres, and metal mesh. The optimum percentages of Alccofine and glass fibres found from the unconfined compression tests were 4% and 2%, respectively. The embankment models of various slope angles were prepared by casting the moulds with slope angles 60˚, 70˚, 80˚, and 90˚. The reinforcement with metal mesh and geogrid was placed with two options, i.e. single layer and double layer of reinforcement. The compression tests were conducted on these embankment models, and the results were analysed by numerical simulations using Plaxis and GeoStudio software tools. The factors of safety of the slopes were estimated using software tools and Taylor’s method, and the variations in the factors of safety with respect to each method are analysed. It was found that the factors of safety obtained with Alccofine amended soil are higher than remaining materials, and this is due to the improvement in shear strength properties of the soil. The load carrying capacity was increased with the inclusion of metal mesh and geogrid, and it is further increased with double layers of reinforcements.
