Study on Sisal Fiber Reinforced Concrete and Its Characteristics

The study investigates the impact of sisal fibers, ranging from 20 to 30 mm in length, in enhancing the properties of M20 and M30 concrete mixes at varying proportions (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2%). The aspect ratio of sisal fibers was maintained at 30 mm. The addition of sisal fibers with proper aspect ratio demonstrates significant improvements in concrete’s mechanical properties. Compressive strength and tensile strength peak at 1% sisal fiber content and decline thereafter. In both M25 and M30 grade concrete, normal sisal fibers enhance compressive strength by 4–14%, with soaked sisal fibers yielding a range of 25–34%. Parallel placed reinforcement further improves strength, ranging from 35.73 to 44.75%. Tensile strength follows a similar pattern, with the maximum achieved at 1.5% sisal fiber content. In both M25 and M30 grade concrete, normal sisal fibers enhance tensile strength by 5–17%, while soaked sisal fibers exhibit a range of 14–33%. Flexural strength peaks at 1.0% sisal fiber content, with normal sisal fibers improving strength by 4–38% in M25 and M30 grade and soaked sisal fibers yielding a range of 16–68% in M25 and M30.
