Utilisation of Industrial Fines in the Manufacturing of Lime-Stabilised Compressed Earth Bricks for Construction

This study addresses the use of blends of lime and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) in stabilising the natural soil. Tests were conducted to obtain the optimum mix ratio for producing the lime—GGBS bricks. The results of the lime—GGBS-stabilised compressed specimens are presented. The investigations showed that the optimum clay content of the soil mix was 20% which resulted in yielding maximum compressive strength of the soil compacts. Tests were conducted to determine the characteristics of the bricks such as strength, absorption, durability, and stress–strain characteristics considering two different lime contents (6 and 10%) and 10% GGBS content. Considerable amount of difference among the wet and dry compressive strengths of the bricks was noticed.
