Since the 1930s, the opposition between materialism and idealism has been seen as the highest principle of deciding the essence and significance of all philosophies. This fossilized paradigm maintains that philosophy is either materialism or idealism; materialism represents the correct, the progressive, while idealism is synonymous with the wrong and the reactive; different schools of philosophy must be reduced to materialism and idealism. In short, the ultimate purpose of all philosophical activities is to firmly adhere to the materialist view of matter as the primary substance and to reject everything related to idealism. All thinking activities must have paradigms. Philosophy is a type of theory with different schools. Both of them concerning fundamental substance, materialism and idealism are philosophical schools that necessarily came into being at a certain developmental stage of knowledge. Understanding the essence of philosophical development in their opposition is highly important.
