The current chapter presents a general overview of green infrastructure and sustainable materials as a viable solution for increasing the longevity and ecological soundness of the built environment. Environmental issues, resource efficacy, urban area quality, prospective solutions for green infrastructure and adoption of sustainable materials were all assessed. The study used a qualitative research approach, using data from various sources, including literature and case studies. Major findings highlight the multiple benefits of green infrastructure in terms of the environment, society, and economic effects. To thoroughly implement green infrastructure initiatives (GRINIT), it is critical to prioritise the use of environmentally sustainable features such as reused materials, renewable energy sources, environmentally friendly construction processes, and energy-saving components. Evaluation of case studies reveals the potential of GRINIT and sustainable materials to foster transformative change in decreasing environmental impacts, enhancing community well-being and developing more sustainable urban environments. Lessons from these cases suggest that using sustainable materials in GRINIT holds the key to a successful implementation and a more efficient approach to addressing some of the environmental issues associated with conventional methods. Adopting this innovative approach can potentially improve resource efficiency, and reduced environmental impact and rate of development (3-Rs). In conclusion, exemplary case studies can be a significant resource for the future implementation of comparable green infrastructure initiatives. Notwithstanding, the government also needs to support these initiatives by incentivising stakeholders in the built sector by implementing policies that encourage the adoption of GRINIT to develop resilient and sustainable structures.

摘要
