Effective Transparent Monitoring of Personal Data

Traditional online file management systems, such as Google Drive and OneDrive, provide convenient platforms for collaborative editing and sharing, but they come with inherent limitations. These systems often offer limited storage space and operate on centralized architectures, which pose significant privacy risks as user data is controlled by service providers. Additionally, many fail to comply with regulations like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Personal Data Privacy Protection Law (PDPPL) by not offering clear transparency over who accessed data, when, and for what purpose. To address these challenges, we propose a decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) file management framework that integrates IPFS and Hyperledger Fabric. This framework provides secure, personal storage spaces for individuals or organizations to store and share files. The P2P network enables distributed storage, while the Hyperledger Fabric network maintains a consistent blockchain ledger for tracking file-related transactions. Our system reduces storage and communication costs through its decentralized structure, allowing file owners to maintain full control over access permissions and safeguard privacy. This paper presents the system architecture, core functionalities, and security measures designed to mitigate common attacks. We also provide an evaluation framework to assess the system’s efficiency and performance.
