How well a company performs depends on how well it is managed, thus there is a need to assess companies’ performance based on its managerial ability. This research primarily compares management abilities across several Indian non-life insurance firms using three stages mathematical model. The study first estimates the technical efficiency of companies using the concept of DEA. In second stage the study determines managerial ability by regress logarithmic value of the calculated technical efficiency on certain contextual variables. The third-stage regression analysis shows that there is a substantial association between return on equity and management skill.
