Advancing Climate-Resilient Agriculture: Adaptive Strategies and Soil-Centric Approaches for Mitigation

Climate change affects agricultural system by fluctuation the temperature, altered precipitation patterns, increase in the frequency of extreme weather events, soil degradation, water scarcity, pest and disease proliferation, variable crop yield and concerns about food security. Climate resilient agriculture (CRA) has emerged as a significant problem in meeting the demands of a growing population. To confront these challenges, the pivotal adaptive strategies including the development and deployment of climate-resilient crop varieties, advanced farming techniques, and innovations in water management. The soil-centric approaches include soil carbon sequestration through no-till farming, cover cropping and biochar. The greenhouse gas emissions were decreased using the integrated nutrient management strategy. Various latest technological innovation such as Artificial intelligence, Satellite imaging, GIS and IoT application could aid in resource optimisation and climate change monitoring. It facilitates real time soil and crop assessment. The government has implemented a number of national and international policies to assist CRA. In order to encourage farmers to adopt sustainable techniques, subsidies were also provided. However, adaptation and mitigation are made easier by the application of stakeholder adaption strategies and local expertise in CRA, as well as by the inclusion of NGOs and international organizations. Adopting new approaches also faces societal, economic, and technical challenges. Additionally, we must pinpoint the gaps in the literature on CRA and the necessity of integrated strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
