Classification of Carbon Fluoride Materials
摘要
The various allotropes of the carbon skeleton provide infinite possibilities for the structural design of CFx. Common carbon precursors include graphite, graphene, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanospheres, fullerenes, etc. Carbon scaffolds can be further designed as precursors of CFx through impurity doping and pore regulation. The fluorination process can be divided into direct fluorination, indirect fluorination and plasma assisted fluorination. Different fluorination modes have different fluorination degree and carbon skeleton retention degree. At the same time, the external environment (temperature and pressure) during fluorination will also affect the final performance of fluorinated carbon. The interactions between carbon (C) and fluorine (F) in fluorocarbon materials extend beyond covalent bonds to include semi-ionic, ionic, and van der Waals forces, contingent on the specific type of fluorocarbon being considered. Examples of carbon materials that exhibit these varied interactions include amorphous carbon, glassy carbon, diamond-like carbon, graphite, fullerenes, and carbon nanofibers. The s-p hybridization of carbon atoms varies among these materials, leading to differences in electrical conductivity, electron affinity, ionization potential, and electronic structure. This diversity in hybridization impacts their properties significantly, making each type of carbon material unique in its behavior and application. Ariel et al. have classified fluorinated carbon structures into two main types. They describe the fluorinated carbon with irregular carbon rings and low fluorine content as having a diamond-like carbon structure. On the other hand, they characterize fluorine-rich carbon as a polymer-like structure with small volume crosslinked C–C units, C–C chains, and CF2 units. In this chapter, we will classify the types of carbon precursors and discuss the structural characteristics and different properties of fluorinated carbon materials formed by these different carbon precursors.
