The foreland-shaped Bengal Basin experiences recurrent seismic threats due to Eurasian-Indian tectonic plate collision. The present study appraises a site-specific surface-consistent probabilistic seismic hazard through site characterization of the Basin using geotechnical and geophysical database categorizing the Basin into eleven site classes with an amplification of 1.3–4.6 times resulting in a PGA range of 0.09–1.40 g for 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years. Holistic seismic microzonation and urban structural damage assessment performed on Asansol, Cuttack, Chittagong and Sylhet have also been presented.
