Nanoparticles in Tissue Repair

Tissue engineering is a multidisciplinary field of study that offers alternative options to preserve existing tissue or support new tissue formation. One of the main purposes of tissue engineering is to create tissue scaffolds to repair or imitate existing tissues and organs that need remodeling. Nanoparticles, which have the most common use in nanomaterials, are particles ranging in size from 1 to 100 nm. Nanoparticles have contributed to research especially in the field of biomedicine due to their superior properties. The most important advantages of applying particles smaller than 100 nm in biomedical uses are: they show high efficiency surface areas, high stability, low settling rates, and enhanced textural diffusion, which will allow the ligands to be easily attached to the surface. In this book chapter, the role of nanoparticles and composites obtained with nanoparticles in tissue repair will be discussed.
