Sociology in Northeast India: Beginning to Present
摘要
Sociology as a discipline was formally introduced in Northeast India during the late 1960s. This development has played a crucial role in shaping our understanding of the region’s social dynamics. This chapter will examine the trajectory of sociology in Northeast India. Secondly, it examines the contributions of some sociologists to the growth of sociology in the region. Finally, it will examine the reasons for creating a regional sociological association that promotes collaboration among scholars from both the region and beyond. Sociology as a discipline in Northeast India still grapples with the need for localised theoretical models that move beyond mainstream Indian sociological paradigms, which often overlook the region’s specificities.
