In the landscape of digital science communication, trust in scientific information has eroded within an epistemically fragile environment dominated by echo chambers and the elevation of opinions over verifiable facts. The proliferation of misinformation, disinformation, and contentious issues renders traditional communication models inadequate for addressing the complexities of today’s digital discourse. This chapter aims to develop the theoretical framework of science communication by advocating for the adoption of dialogic relationships as a means to navigate the challenges posed by the epistemically weak digital context, lack of trust in science, and the biases that threaten effective communication. Beginning with a conceptual exploration of this context, the chapter proceeds to introduce dialogic relationships as a strategic response. Finally, a comprehensive three-pronged dialogic digital communication model is proposed to illuminate and mitigate the cognitive, sociocultural, and technological biases that hinder communication efficacy. By prioritising dialogic engagement and trust-building mechanisms, this approach aims to fortify science communication in the face of pervasive misinformation, fostering more resilient and impactful interactions within digital spaces.
