High concentrations of CO2 due to inadequate ventilation are associated with issues such as the temporary reduction in cognitive performance and the increased susceptibility to airborne diseases like COVID-19. The study of air quality, thermal comfort, and the risk of airborne pathogen transmission is essential for promoting healthy and safe indoor environments. Childcare centers require special consideration as younger children do not yet have a mature immune and respiratory system, rendering them particularly vulnerable. This situation is also affected by the extended duration of time that students spend in classrooms. Currently, only a limited number of centers have analyzed the air quality in their classrooms. Therefore, this study focused on monitoring a daycare center in the city of Seville, Spain to evaluate the risks to its occupants by means of the Wells-Riley model. The obtained data confirms that infants of younger age groups are consistently exposed to high rates of airborne pathogen transmission and concentrations of CO2 that greatly exceed permissible levels for a significant fraction of the time.
