Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections in infants and children. It is equally common in boys and girls during infancy, but after the first year of life, it is more common in girls. Occurrence of UTI may be the first indication of the presence of any congenital abnormality of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) or bladder bowel dysfunction (BBD). It requires appropriate diagnostic evaluation, timely management, and long-term follow-up to avoid renal damage.
