Pediatric Burns
摘要
One-fourth of burn injuries occur in children, and majority of them are seen in children below 5 years of age. Different types of burn injuries in children include scalds, fire/flame-induced burns, electrical, and chemical burns. Scalds are the most common type of injury in children below 5 years of age. In older children, fire injuries are more common and nonthermal burns or child abuse is common in children less than 2 years of age who are nonverbal. Majority of them involve less than 10% of the body surface area and are nonfatal, and the mortality rate in children with burn injuries is 3–4. In India, 17–25% of burn admissions are due to pediatric burns. After initial assessment and resuscitation, the management of pediatric burn follows with fluid resuscitation, supportive care and pain management, burn wound management and rehabilitation.
