Changes and Characteristics of Total Vegetation Carbon Sequestration by Grid in China

The characteristics of changes in total vegetation carbon sequestration and the distribution of China’s districts and counties have already presented the systematic and evolutionary differences of China’s vegetation carbon sequestration in human and economic geography from a whole and administrative division perspective. However, it lacks undifferentiated regional geographic information, making it difficult to observe and differentiate even in large jurisdictions covered by a mix of multiple types of vegetation. Therefore, the spatial distribution pattern of carbon sequestration by different vegetation types can be divided into 0.5° × 0.5° latitude–longitude grids. This approach provides a more objective description of the distribution of carbon sequestration levels and the direction of change of different vegetation types on a grid-by-grid basis. It also overcomes the ambiguous restriction of administrative divisions on the carbon sequestration capacity of different vegetation mixing zones. This chapter explores the capture accuracy and monitoring level of various satellite products on the carbon sequestration capacity of different regional grids. Herein, we compare the distributional differences and identify the advantages and disadvantages of each product in the targeted sequestration of vegetation in different grids. The aim is to provide detailed reference information for carbon sequestration and emission reduction policy formulation.
