Introduction

Human production and business activities have resulted in significant greenhouse gas emissions, leading to global warming; this, consequently, has caused widespread and rapid changes in the biosphere, resulting in frequent occurrences of extreme weather in many regions worldwide. The consequences of climate change also include the repeated alternation of La Niña phenomenon and El Niño phenomenon, which have been particularly pronounced in the past decade. Although several countries have taken active measures to cope with natural disasters and have made progress, there are differences in their adaptation to environmental change and response to climate hazards due to varying levels of development. This phenomenon is especially true for developing countries prone to maladaptation or reaching national carrying thresholds due to the impacts of financial resources, policies, and external social environments. In response to the climate change crisis, countries are implementing measures to mitigate its effects. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Kyoto Protocol, and Paris Agreement are examples of policies that countries have developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Evidence suggests that mitigation policies have already reduced 24GtCO2 every year. However, these reductions have only partially offset the growth in global emissions and curbed the excessively rapid growth in global warming, and much more needs to be done to mitigate climate change. From a natural science perspective, limiting man-made global warming requires achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emissions, also known as carbon neutrality. In addition, a comprehensive solution to climate change requires achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, which involves attaining negative carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, we must concentrate on reducing carbon emissions and analyzing and discussing carbon sequestration simultaneously.
