Unraveling the Motivations Behind Moonlighting: A Phenomenological Exploration of Multi-job Holders’ Lived Experiences Through Thematic Analysis

Moonlighting refers to the practice of holding multiple jobs simultaneously. The phenomenon of moonlighting is characterized by the complexities involved in juggling various professional commitments, the impact on personal and professional spheres, and the broader socio-economic implications. This research aims at exploring the factors that influence moonlighting through the lived experiences of moonlighting practitioners. It is a phenomenological study involving a thematic analysis to explore the themes and subthemes related to moonlighting tendencies. The themes were coded using the Nvivo software the accelerators and inhibitor themes related to moonlighting were identified. This study helps to understand the drivers of moonlighting in the evolved social, economic, and technological context shaped by uncertainties like the Covid-19 pandemic.
