Determinants of E-commerce for SMEs: A Bibliometric Analysis
摘要
This study aimed to examine the trends in e-commerce and SME publications between 2013 and 2023 on Scopus using a bibliometric analysis. Bibliometric tools like biblioshiny (via R-studio software) and VoSviewer were used. The analysis covered the number of scientific publications, authorship patterns, common keywords, and thematic mapping among the selected articles. The study results showed that 576 articles in English were generated using search words like “SMEs and e-commerce”. However, for this study, 77 articles were identified based on inclusion criteria, such as subjects related to business, management, and accounting, and the exclusion of non-full-text access to journal articles. The bibliometric analysis indicated that the number of publications on e-commerce and SMEs increased sharply after 2018, and most publications appeared in the UK. The thematic mapping showed that information management is an emerging/declining theme. Based on the scenario of shifting paradigms for SMEs, information management can be considered an emerging theme, and firms must develop a resilient approach toward e-commerce. The results of this study will enhance the knowledge and base information on the present trends in e-commerce adoption among SMEs. Moreover, only one standalone research concerning e-commerce and SMEs was identified in the context of GCC. Thus, it indicates a need for future studies that may explore the relationship between e-commerce and Oman SMEs. The study results indicated that the future economy is digital. Henceforth, policymakers may support boosting the number of electronic consumers and promoting the market's reliability. Such practices will help SMEs be resilient in adopting activities related to e-commerce. Moreover, SMEs must prepare for the digital transition and implement new business models based on market-driven forces like demand and supply.
