Intra-arterial Blood Pressure Monitoring

Intra-arterial blood pressure (IABP) measurement is considered to be the gold standard in blood pressure measurement. It is used for “beat – to- beat” monitoring of blood pressure for any reason (surgical or non-surgical) and/or need for frequent blood sampling. Recent indications also include measurement of cardiac output. IABP is used extensively in anesthesia, ICU, and emergency department.
