Swan Ganz Catheter Insertion

Swan Ganz catheterization or right heart catheterization is insertion of balloon floatation flow directed catheter into the PA in order to measure various hemodynamic variables. This procedure is used for measurement of pressures in the right atrium (RA), right ventricle (RV), PA and pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP). It also helps in the estimation of cardiac output, intracardiac shunts, and vascular resistances.
