Central Venous Catheter

Central venous catheter (CVC) in today’s practice of medicine has become an indispensable technique. It is a very commonly performed procedure in critically ill patients. It mainly allows for the administration of vasoactive medication and venoirritants drugs. Also used for plasmapheresis, or as a conduit for additional devices for more complex procedures like transvenous pacing, etc. This article reviews the definition, history, indications contraindications, and different techniques of insertion of CVC.
