Jet Ventilation

Ventilating bronchoscopes are in use since the 1950s; these instruments have allowed ventilation through a side arm by occlusion of the proximal end of the bronchoscope by the surgeon’s thumb or a glass window, but these maneuvers required withdrawal of instruments and temporary cessation of surgery. To overcome these drawbacks, jet ventilation was developed in the late 1960s.
