Evaluating the Effectiveness of Design-Build Project Delivery Method in Commercial Interior Design and Fit-Out Projects
摘要
The demand for commercial interior design and fit-out projects has been increasing steadily, with the architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry paying more attention to this area. Limited research is available on commercial interior design and fit-out practices, particularly on the effectiveness of different project delivery methods in dealing with stakeholders’ objectives, such as cost, time, quality, and client satisfaction. This study aims to identify the position of commercial interior design and fit-out in the AEC industry, evaluate the interior design and fit-out processes, and analyse the effectiveness of the design-build (DB) project delivery method used by companies in delivering fit-out projects compared to traditional project delivery methods. The research questions of the study are: (1) What are commercial interior design and fit-out and its position in the AEC industry? (2) What is the role of the design-build (DB) model in commercial interior fit-out? (3) How effective is the design-build (DB) method in delivering commercial interior fit-out projects? Furthermore, the study analyses the effectiveness of the design-build method in dealing with different project stakeholders’ objectives. This study narrows the research gap on commercial interior design and fit-out practices. With the increasing demand for interior design and fit-out projects, this study provides insights into why the design-build method is widely used by commercial interior design companies worldwide in delivering fit-out projects. The study will be important for interior designers, architects, builders, and project managers looking to explore the effectiveness of the design-build project delivery method in delivering commercial interior design and fit-out projects.
