Traditional and manual practices of the Pakistani construction industry lead to issues such as time overruns, lower profits, decreased labour productivity, and job satisfaction, ultimately resulting in reduced efficiency. While the developed world has caught up with the digitalisation agenda, addressing the mentioned issues and paving the way for Industry 4.0, in the developing countries like Pakistan have some catching up. A digitally skilled workforce is a success criterion in this transformation to Industry 4.0, which is currently lacking in Pakistan. Comprehensive data collection through a questionnaire survey of industry participants is performed to assess the current state and future requirements of digital skills in the Pakistani construction industry and benchmark it with the developed world. This data collation helped compare the digital skills deemed necessary in the literature versus those needed in Pakistan. The comparison found common skills such as AutoCAD, MS Office, BIM, Revit, GIS, structural analysis, and project management software. However, noteworthy differences were found between the skills of Pakistan’s construction industry and the global industry context. In Pakistan’s context, emerging digitalisation skills in the global construction industry, such as big data analytics, blockchain, cloud computing, digital twin, 3D printing, AI, smart sensors, and automated and robotics technologies, were lacking. This difference facilitated a proposal for a future digitalisation agenda, including government support, strategy development, incentivisation, and training incorporation. These would lead to the transformation of the existing practices of the Pakistani construction industry to those compliant with Industry 4.0.
