The development of elasticity can be roughly divided into four periods. The first period began in the seventeenth century when people began to apply the principle of elasticity and systematically and quantitatively studied elasticity. In the early stages of the development of elasticity, the basic laws of elasticity were mainly explored through practice, especially through experiments. The main achievement of this period was R. Hooke’s law published in 1678, which stated that the deformation of elastic bodies is proportional to external forces, later known as Hooke’s law, and Newton’s three laws of mechanics established in 1687.
