Rice husk, a plentiful and renewable agricultural by-product, presents a promising resource for the production of particleboard. This chapter explores into the potential of rice husk as a sustainable alternative for traditional wood-based particleboards, examining its processing methods, properties and practical applications. The discussion begins with an overview of the global production of rice husk and its typical disposal methods, emphasizing the environmental and economic benefits of utilizing this biomass. The key processing techniques are explored, including pre-treatment methods to enhance adhesion, particle size reduction to improve board density and various bonding agents used to optimize the mechanical properties of the finished product. The special attention is given to the environmental impact of these processes, showcasing how rice husk particleboards can contribute to reducing deforestation and waste management issues.
