Nano-Porous Materials from Rice Husk and Rice Husk Ash for Adsorptive Biomedical Applications

A dependable and sustainable source of carbon-free energy generation is rice husk biomass, often known as rice husk (RH) biowaste. The traditional method of disposing of rice husk biomass is burning it to produce electricity. Producing activated porous carbon, mesoporous silica, and zeolite using RH biochar and rice husk ash (RHA) as low-cost precursors would minimize the global carbon footprint by employing carbon-free raw materials. The products obtained have multiple innovative and sustainable employment in many industries. They exhibit a transforming power of resourcefulness by enhancing soil, generating electricity for houses and buildings, and even spurring scientific innovations involving pharmaceutical applications and high-technology battery systems. The chapter is largely focused on the methodologies of obtaining nanoporous materials from rice husk biomass, different physicochemical properties, and their respective biomedical applications.
